Dr. Elise Vestal
Forensic Psychologist
Dr. Vestal is a clinical psychologist licensed in Virginia, North Carolina, and Maryland (inactive status). She has practiced forensic psychology for over 15 years. She began her career at Maryland’s maximum security forensic hospital, conducting competency, criminal responsibility, malingering, and violence risk assessments. She also provided treatment to forensic patients and she supervised psychology trainees.
She worked for two intelligence agencies in the MD/DC area from 2005-2009. She served as a Psychology Representative on the Personnel Evaluation Panel and provided consultation services for the Security, Recruitment, and Employee Relations Departments. She conducted pre- employment screening evaluations for perspective job applicants to help determine suitability for employment and to inform security clearance determinations. She conducted psychological evaluations to assist in making pre-selection decisions and assessed continued suitability for participation in a Special Operations Program.
Dr. Vestal began working in North Carolina’s maximum security forensic hospital on the pre- trial evaluation unit in 2008. She conducted competency and criminal responsibility assessments, provided expert testimony in response to subpoenas and court orders, and supervised and participated in the training of psychology interns in an APA-accredited program. Dr. Vestal has also facilitated online graduate and undergraduate clinical and forensic psychology classes for Saint Leo and Argosy Universities.
Dr. Vestal currently works as a sub-contractor for the Veteran’s Administration, conducting compensation and pension evaluations. Her assessments aid the VA in making disability determinations. She has served in this capacity since 2011.
Dr. Vestal earned her doctorate degree in Clinical/Human Services Psychology from the University of Maryland Baltimore County in 2003. She is a member of the Society for Military Psychology and the American Psychology Law Society.
