Dr. Sid Binks

Board Certified Clinical Neuropsychologist

Dr. Sid Binks is a board certified clinical neuropsychologist through the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP).  He completed his 2-year residency in clinical neuropsychology at the National Institutes of Mental Health (NIH).  He is a long-time member of multiple professional neuropsychological organizations and is published in the field.  He has been employed by the State of Maryland’s forensic psychiatric hospital (3 years) where he provided forensic psychological and forensic neuropsychological consultations.  He has continued to consult there on a part time (monthly) basis for an additional 20 years. 

He is currently employed by the District of Columbia’s psychiatric hospital where he has provided forensic neuropsychological consultations for 20 years (full-time for five years, half-time for 15 years).  He is licensed in Maryland, District of Columbia and the US Virgin Islands.  He is also in private practice where he conducts forensic neuropsychological consultations.  He has given depositions and expert testimony (criminal and civil courts) in Military Court (Naval), Maryland, Virginia, District of Columbia and Delaware in matters related to criminal responsibility, dangerousness, competency to stand trial, death penalty, aid in sentencing, civil liability and financial competency.  Notable cases he has testified in have included multiple US vs. John W. Hinckley release hearings and both Maryland vs. Ruthann Aron’s criminal responsibility trials.  He specializes in diagnosing neurocognitive disorders and malingering, and, their interface with psychiatric illnesses in forensic settings.

Dr. Binks’ other psychology specialty lies in working with the LGBTQ population.  His dissertation research focused on Homosexual Identity Integration.  He is a member of Division 44 Society for the Psychology of Sexual Orientation and Gender Diversity of the American Psychological Association which has as its mission to increase understanding of the diversity in human sexuality and gender identity.  For the past 25 years, he has conducted psychotherapy in all matters related to this population and is very well versed in the particular stresses and strains concomitant with an LGBTQ identity.  This work has also led him to the forensic arena where he has conducted expert evaluations for pre-trial consultation and post-trial aide-in-sentencing for these individuals, often in sex crime situations.  He has also testified in military and immigration courts on matters related to sex crimes and LGBTQ identity, respectively.
